How Does Racism Impact the Way We View Immigration
Introduction
In recent years, views of immigration in the United States have shifted with many Americans perceiving immigrants as a source of national prosperity, rather than an eminent burden. Foner (2016) reaffirms that immigration has continued to be a critical part of the country with the growing numbers of immigrants since 1980. The public shift in the way we view immigration has been largely driven by pro-immigration and racially liberal standpoints held by the Democrats (Pew Research Center, 2017). According to Foner (2016), the racial system in the United States is an important component of how immigrants are perceived and their experiences in the country.
