The advent of technology has made life an output- and achievement-based world. Many people have been using different kinds of technologies for their work, and the boundaries between work and personal life are oftentimes being blurred. Despite this, researchers have conducted studies and still found that good perceived health outcomes and higher levels of happiness rely on participation in recreation and leisure activities (Temel & Tükel, 2021). Because of this, there are many types of recreational activities that have been created to foster the well-being of people further, but even these continue to change and decrease in efficacy.
One challenge in the future of recreation in today’s society is the ever-growing compendium of recreational activity types that are detrimental to human health. For example, many people now rely on their phones for recreation, which then causes smartphone addiction when uncontrolled (Gumusgul, 2018). Because of this, being on one’s phone for large chunks of time has become frowned upon in certain social scenarios, and many people are being advised against being on their phones the whole time.
