The researchers investigated different levels of burnout of clinical nurses and examined how personal and environmental factors could contribute to nursing burnout.  In the regression analysis of job burnout for the total stress p = .0000 at P < 0.01 and this was a significant predictor of emotional exhaustion the reason for working as a nurse, was also was significantly correlated with emotional exhaustion. There were 717 full-time Chinese nurses from six hospitals were asked to complete five questionnaires. One of them was a demographic questionnaire, the second was the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the third was the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the fourth was the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index, and the first was related to the Nurse Job Stressor Scale. According to the participants, both personal and environmental issues contributed to their failure at the workplace. However, personal factors were far more prominent than the environmental factors. Most of the nurses were urged to work even when they complained about physical, mental or family problem. However, there are limitations as the researchers used a convenience and may not necessarily be representative, and cross-sectional design is not preferred in causal-effect relationship studies, while there may be respondent bias in the self-report questionnaires.  Randomized sampling and larger samples from hospitals with nurses form different departments will be more representative. Environmental factors like the work load increase the risk of nurse burnout, and some of the cconsequences of professional burnout include mental fatigue and lack of motivation. The results can be generalized for similar hospital settings as the sample was large the results were precise as required to maintain validity, and the results are relevant to a wide audience.
