The movie, “Snow Walker”, an adaptation of the short story, “Walk Well, My Brother” talk about the life of a fighter pilot who is returning home after the world war II. Both stories revolve around an unexpected journey that changed their life forever through the recognition of persons’ similarities and differences in the face of survival (Smith, Pepper, & Little, 2003).
Both depict the differences between the survival methods of a person of authority and a nomad. These stories are set in a post-world war II era. The protagonist of the story happened to traverse an area where he met a female native who has Tuberculosis. Because of his thoughtfulness and in turn for a limited offer, he decided to take the native to the nearest hospital in Yellow Knife. However, due to an unexpected event, the protagonists in both stories were forced to land in an area far from civilization (Smith, Pepper, & Little, 2003). Here, their adventure starts.
It has been difficult for the protagonist and the lady in both stories to communicate due to the language barrier, where they have different languages and dialects. Thus, they cannot understand one another. They only communicate through the use of signs and symbols. The protagonist in both stories is a bag of wind—he thinks that he can survive everything since he is a soldier. However, surviving in an area where you know no one, and you have nothing is an expert for a nomad. Therefore, when it comes to these matters, the nomad is better than the soldier. At first, the soldier is honestly hesitant in accepting the favour from a nomad or a native since he thinks of himself as someone who has the far higher authority and experience.
