In this line, Ophelia wanted to speak with the queen, however, the queen was reluctant on the same. Ophelia was at this point being considered mad after her father died and now she muttering incoherent statements and songs (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2017). However, there is a theme about death chaos and even some themes about unrequited love. Relative to the fact that, Ophelia has been for some been considered mad, after her father died.

One of the elements that comes off this incidence is that Gertrude has a questionable character. This could mean that she is conspiring with Claudius. In Act three scene one, Gertrude is seen to commend Ophelia on her beauty and comments on how the she hopes that her beauty will impact Hamlet in a good way. However, as seen in this scene, she says that she does not want to see her (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2017). This brings to question even the applause she is seen to accord Ophelia earlier on. The question in character is quite profound given the circumstances that led to the death of the king and the way that she is acting. There is a gap in the comments that she had made earlier and what she had intended against how she acts in the scene. It is only after she is told by Horatio that not letting her in will bring unwanted attention to the throne. This changes her heart as she then says that Ophelia can be let in. it is unclear why she changes her mind after she is told that, Ophelia could bring unwanted attention.
