By establishing how a set of circumstances could or has negatively impacted a particular population, the proposal writer creates a sense of urgency that is meant to convince his/her intended audience to adopt a course of action. How have the experts in your discourse community defined certain situations as problems that must be solved? In other words, what rhetorical strategies have the experts in your field employed to bring problems into focus for their intended audience? What solutions have those same experts proposed to solve these problems? What problem within your discourse community are you most passionate about solving and why? How would you define the problem so that fellow practitioners within your field would be motivated to solve it?
