An ally can be considered as an individual who is aware of the privileges that a section of society is deprived by the obvious injustices that are in the world and decide to take action and responsibility to reverse this way of life. Allies can include the black or white people who acknowledge the fact that racism exists in society and take the necessary steps to curb it or those who preach against sexism and gender violence. It may also include the upper class that is the rich people in society who acknowledge poverty and fight for the rights of the poor man (Edwards, 2016). Becoming an ally is a formidable process that can be initiated by simple events, for instance, experiencing racist or sexist chants against a close friend or relative. To become an ally, one must follow some basic steps that often involve defining the role of an ally in situations such as campaigns against sexism, understanding the risks involved and the challenges that are involved in becoming an ally.

An ally is imperative in the society today due to the social injustices that are being committed on a daily basis. A partner is essential in comforting those in the society that feel discriminated or are deprived their rights. Allies play a significant role in social changes and inequality in that they act as the spokesmen for those discriminated either because of their sexuality or race. Allies also offer emotional and moral support to those on the receiving end. It is important that individuals feel appreciated in the communities they hail from since it gives them a sense of importance and they feel part of the community.
