Part 2
Whitney Houston grew up with a love for music. The Whitney Houston album was her first album and its success set off her musical career. This album was crucial to Whitney Houston because it is the one that introduced her to the world. For introductions, this was indeed grand. For new artists, Whitney set the bar quite high. Commercially, the album sold over 22 million copies worldwide. However, it should be noted that its progress was quite slow at first but this improved as the album continued to generate interest and singles like You Give Good Love became successful. Three singles from the album namely Saving All My Love For You, How Will I Know, and Greatest Love of All were number one on the Hot 100 Chart in 1986. With regard to production, one of the things that stand out is the fact that there is no monopoly. Often, producers want to take all credit and thus push to produce albums by themselves. However, for Whitney Houston, several producers were involved and their genius is there for everyone to see.
Part 3
As a debut album, Whitney Houston exceeded expectations. For new artists, expectations are usually quite low and people react at one’s genius after the work is already in the market. So, for Whitney, the album exceeded expectations as it was not only critically acclaimed but also won awards. With this album, Whitney broke and set new records. In the 28th Grammy Awards, she received 4 nominations for the album and won the award for Best Pop Vocal Performance for the song Saving All My Love For You. All over the world, the album became a major hit. Some of the phrases used to describe the album include “the foundation of diva-pop.” Critics called Whitney amazing and praised her voice. As an African American, she had managed to do what many had not done before. The album’s popularity was not limited to the African Americans as it was a masterpiece.
