The use of emoji by social media is complex and strategic. Research by Ge & Gretzel (2018) shows the engagement plays multiple roles in persuasion and communication. However. Most social media users may not have realized and recognized the services emoji could substantially offer to their interaction process. Also, their participation has not been systematically analyzed (Ge & Gretzel, 2018). The attempt would have changed many users' perceptions, putting them in a better position to understand and make sense of their communication role. Knowing that social media is networked online spaces that facilitate computer-centered communication, all the aspects in the computer media should be maximized, and emojis are not an exception. Therefore, they should be engaged in the information sharing and exchanging process. Ge & Gretzel (2018) claim that they have institutionalized a new persuasion arena that most people in the past era of communication could have desired to use but did not get the opportunity. It is eventually factual that most social media users do not use emojis at all or as expected. While emojis might be necessary for communication, the users may not even know the value they impact on most social media spaces.
Could users not be understanding their respective meanings?
