Mary Anne Staniszewski book Believing is seeing: Creating the Culture of Art depicts art as something that satisfies our needs in any given place or time aligning with our perception in the situation. The artist is clear that as time progress art ideologies are subject to dynamics depending on the social norm of the time, current place in time and the significance in which we perceive the ideologies. The approach works of Art are reproduced through mediums like TVs, books, postcards and photographs is likened with the way cultural institutions always meditate our reality. However, as a curator, I would broadly define art as a form of communication and an act of expressing thoughts, feelings and observations. Additionally, art is shaped by techniques, materials and forms it makes to use of as well as the feelings and ideas created to its viewers.[. The Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC has several notable interiors installed in its galleries ranging from 1st Century Rome through modernized American design. The museum is resourceful in art education and art to the American people. The museum is home of renowned paintings, though it houses much more inclusive of a historical artifact, porcelain, musical instruments, armaments and costumes. Some of the notable interior galleries from the Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC are paintings, historical artifacts and costumes as analyzed below.
Paintings
Painting is an image created using color on a surface ground such as canvas or paper. The pigment may be in a dry form such as pastels or in a wet form such as paint. Painting is an essential form in the visual arts bringing elements such as gesture, narrative art, gestural painting and abstract art.
Looking through this European painting there is a strong connection with the met. The painting has a meaning and introduces to us a tone, theme and mood. The theme of the painting relates to the meaning of the painting as opposed to the subject. The painting is about European history through the transition process of modernization that tags along with the culture. The theme of this European painting introduces us to the idea that “your age defines the level of your civilization”. The lightness of colors creates a pleasing sensation. The painting is expressive of early European culture where the society was very dependent through modernization where everyone is independent. It is clear that the first painting depicts how the family used to bond but after modernization took over only toddlers is dependent to their parents and the aspect of everyone being independent starts when one is a preteen through adulthood. When you think of civilization, the independent society crosses your mind.
