January 16th 2015. This is the day that my life took a completely different path; a dark one. It was my birthday I was turning 18 and I was excited. No more fake IDs, partying without fear of parents finding out. However, most of the excitement came from the fact that I knew I was no longer going to be a virgin. My boyfriend of 2 years, Todd, was going to deflower me and I could not have been more elated. This was finally an opportunity for us to seal our love.
The day started as any other normal day with my mother making blueberry pancakes. My father had already gone to work and sometimes I could not help but feel like his work always came first before us. All he left behind was a note saying that he would be home in time for my birthday dinner. This was what he said every other year and I hoped that this time he would actually put me first. After all, I was turning 18 and I was no longer their little girl. The day went by quite fast and it was dinner time.
I helped my mum set up the table as we waited for my father to come. He was already running late; as usual. The queer feeling still kept bugging me but I decided to ignore my instincts.
