The United States Border Security
Border security is one of the major concerns in the United States to prevent illegal movement of drugs, contraband, people, and weapons while enhancing lawful entry and exit from a country. The United States promotes national sovereignty, economic prosperity, and homeland security through border security. The United States requires an enhanced border management system to keep pace with the emerging threats while protecting the country from unauthorized entry (Lawler, 2021). Federal border control agencies need seamless information sharing systems for coordinated communication to enhance border security. In such a case, the United States would attract legitimate travelers and facilitate the country's economic growth.
The Impact of making the United States borders less open and more Secure
The effort of making the United States borders more secure might have far-reaching impacts. For instance, such a reform would slow down the import and export of goods and services, thus affecting the economic systems. Besides, open borders would result in the devaluation of the currency, just like in the case of Britain. In such a case, imports would be expensive as a downturn to major industries (Smith, 2019). Similarly, scarcity of raw materials would lower proceeds in most industries and even loss of jobs for the workers. For instance, a company like Apple would have to shut down operations due to its overreliance on supplies outside the United States.
Furthermore, open borders might influence other governments to enact current tariffs on the United States goods. The main influencing factor would be the inability to handle a similar volume of imports worldwide (Smith, 2019). Similarly, commodity-producing companies would encounter significant losses due to the increased prices or lack of raw materials. Despite being secure, open borders would have a negative impact on business and the economy of the United States.
