Laws that are being Violated by the Teenagers
I spotted a silhouette of four unidentifiable teenagers at a nearby convenience shop during my patrol on Friday night between 12:00 and 1:00 AM. The lighting was terrible, and the silhouette appeared suspicious. Three male and one female teen were visible as I got closer to the group of four silhouetted teens. Two of the three male teenagers in the group are holding beer cans, the group's lone female is holding a cigarette stick, and the third man is holding nothing. After I park my car next to them, I try to find out what they are doing there at that hour of the night.
By simply witnessing the action that these teens are doing, several violated laws are noticeable, including; (1) violation of the city curfew ordinance, (2) underage drinking of alcohol, and (3) underage smoking of cigarettes.
By considering the circumstances, I made the decision to consider how I would handle each of the underage teens involved in the action. I would start by asking the two teenagers holding the beer cans what age they are in order to correctly confirm that they are underage because appearances can be deceiving, and if there is evidence that they are not, they might get away with it. Following that, I'd like to know where they got the booze because young teenagers like them shouldn't be able to purchase it from convenience stores. If the two teenagers are found guilty, I would inquire about their home addresses and try to get in touch with them so they could be taken home by their parents. But in order to minimize any bias, I would ask them alone, away from their friends.
The female youngster carrying the cigarette has a legal age limit, just like the two male teen smokers. Thus, I would also inquire about her age. If it is determined that she is still too young to smoke, they should be given a warning rather than an arrest CITATION Rannd \l 1033 (Rand.org, n.d.). The same goes for any other teenagers involved at the time. Lastly, for the one teen who is not carrying any booze but is clutching nothing; If everything goes without a hitch and the kids don't start a fight, the final thing to do is to call their parents and send them home so they can be safe and off the streets.
