Neurological and musculoskeletal disorders can cause challenges in speaking, walking, and other essential areas in their day-to-day lives. The transformation experienced in the individual's neurological, skeletal, mental, and muscular functionalities can lead to different impairments. In the case presented, there are diverse potential causes for the symptoms experienced by the patient. This mandates proper analysis of the pathophysiological processes to account for the patient presenting these symptoms.
The case mainly focuses on a 74-year-old male individual who is reported to have a history of smoking and hypertension. While he is having dinner with his wife, he develops speech difficulties, and drooling is observed on the left side of his mouth. There is also weakness in his left hand. While the patient denies experiencing any problems when asked by the wife, the symptoms are perceived to advance within the next few minutes until he can no longer lift his left arm and stand. Notably, the symptoms experienced have both neurological and physiological triggers.
When the blood vessels within the brain are blocked, there is a higher potential of being diagnosed with stroke. Similarly, this is also experienced when the blood vessels burst or break, limiting the blood supply to diverse brain components. This leads to malfunctions in the body's neurological system, which can cause the death of brain components because there is no proper blood supply to these parts. While the impulses are present, they can never be transmitted to other body parts for proper functioning.
