Stress is common in our lives, but we can make it through if we seek ways to manage it and work towards reducing it. Job stress occurs mainly if the job demands differ from the capabilities, available resources, or the wants of the workers leading to harmful physical and emotional responses. Job stress in a policing environment can be managed by creating a framework of incentives, supporting the police officers’ families, and holding supervisor-subordinate meetings. Police departments can come up with organized systems to ensure that the officer’s mental health is taken care of. These programs can include holding voluntary stress management conferences and encouraging them to engage in exercise programs.
