An eye witness is an individual who was present at a happening event or crime and can, therefore, describe the incident in the court of law (Loftus, 1979). When a case is presented in the court of law, the judges tend to test the reliability of identifications in various ways. Identification of witness reliability is essential to avoid misidentifications errors. To determine the reliability of the identifications, the judges in the court examine the identification procedures through a test known as the totality of circumstances approach (Loftus, 1979). Identification procedures are carried out by police or other judicial groups. The test ensures that the identification procedures are reliable and unnecessarily suggestive.
