Michael Johnston’s “Building a Social Movement Against Corruption” portrays the reason why it is challenging to eradicate corruption. One of the key features of the article is that it makes it clear that many people are suffering silently due to fraudulent activities. However, the majority of individuals perceive it as a waste of time to fight corruption. The author says that “strong and lasting anti-corruption social movements are rare” (Johnston, 2012, p. 57). In this case, it is clear that many individuals do not join hands to eradicate corruption. The other critical thing about the article is that it shows the reason why the process of building credible, legitimate, and sufficient institutions is difficult. Most importantly, eliminating corruption calls for a government that is accountable, effective, and fair.
