Conflict Situation
The criminal justice system comprises three components: the police, the courts and correctional facilities. They work collectively in the deterrent of criminals, isolating them from the rest of society, and implementing an appropriate punishment (Souryai, 2001). Conflicts taking place in five stages are bound to happen between these sectors. Conflict resolution tactics must be of use in these matters. This essay seeks to identify the stages of conflict and means of resolution between the police and law courts and the role of the supervisor in the management process. I will further explore the measures taken when their management fails.
The first stage of conflict is latent. This is where there is evidence of potential factors that could lead to a possible conflict between the parties. It is the competition stage where the parties fight for resources and forms of justice. The second stage is the perception of the parties. In this stage, one party puts forth its concerns regarding the other party. The conflict then arises with misunderstandings from both parties as they try to assert themselves (Souryai, 2001). This conflict is resolved by opening up a platform for effective communication where both parties are fully heard. The third stage is a conflict that can be felt, and the parties begin to perceive, recognize, and bring up feelings of tension and anxiousness. This is because the demands of one party begin to pinch the other party as an organization. It is also from the hostile feelings that come up from engaging in confrontations, especially when the institutions have a past history in conflicts. The fourth stage is the manifestation. The parties promote confrontational actions to emit responses from the other party. These responses range from empathy, aggression, decline, destruction, or simply adhering to the law.
