Over the past 150 years, the United States has moved from newspapers and yellow journalism to social media and fake news. Within this time continuum, we find the media attempting to focus voters’ attention on specific issues, swaying public opinion, and influencing politics.
From a present-day perspective, imagine that you are the owner of a large multimedia group and want to increase voter turnout for the upcoming presidential election. Develop a Voter Turnout Plan to accomplish this goal, using the various media sources at your disposal. Your submission must include the criteria below.
Include a title page with your name, course name and number, instructor’s name, and title of the paper,
Include an introduction with a brief overview of your plan and your target voter turnout percentage.
Plan information, including the following:
Describe the two stages of elections and your plan for both stages.
Describe the presidential election process and how your plan will fit into it.
Identify how you will overcome/address the factors that motivate and hinder voting in the United States.
Describe the ways that the public opinion polls can influence voting behavior and describe how you will impact public opinion.
What polls will you use? How do you anticipate they will increase voter turnout? How will you use them in your plan?
Which media types will you utilize and how will you use them? (e.g., newspapers, news journals, magazines, broadcast media (television and radio), digital and social media

On Election Day, voters are drawn to the polls for various reasons, not only the charisma of a strong candidate. Yes, having an inspirational candidate helps to run a competitive race, but what starts the ball rolling is the focused approach campaigns use to identify potential voters and individualized messaging. For instance, the U.S. still has a lower voter turnout than most wealthy nations, at about an average of 55% (Voter Turnout in Presidential Elections, n.d.). The average numbers partially result from legislative changes that lag behind those in other nations with substantially higher participation percentages, like Canada, Germany, or Australia. The plan is to increase the presidential voter turnout to 65%.
Secret ballot primaries that are coordinated by state and local government are used to elect possible presidential candidates from each major party. Political parties have caucuses, which are restricted sessions, on their own schedules. Voters publicly choose their favored candidate in this instance (Voting and Elections, n.d.). The number of delegates given to each candidate is then calculated after the results have been added together. Before this stage, the plan is to contact voters and thank them for voting in the last election. Additionally, make the voters aware of the candidate who is thanking them for voting and encouraging them to appear in the coming election.
In the summer preceding a presidential election year, each political party has a national convention. A majority must approve the party's delegate nominee, which is typically established and publicized prior to national conventions. If a majority cannot be attained, the presidential candidate will be chosen at the national convention. Candidates organize rallies and engage in debates in attempt to earn voter support.
