Introduction
The American Revolution is one of the most significant events in American history. It changed the United States from a fledgling nation to an independent country. It began in 1775 and ended in 1783 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The war started after the British Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts, which taxed and regulated the American colonies. The colonies, which the Founding Fathers primarily led, believed these acts violated their rights. It also changed the course of American history, leading to the United States' establishment as a superpower. The American Revolution happened after a series of pivotal events that helped the people rise to fight to help the USA gain colonial independence.
Event 1, The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act, which the British Parliament passed in 1765, was the first major cause of the American Revolution. It required all paper documents, including legal tender notes, to have a stamp, which proved that the document had been paid. Because the colonial governments had no way to stamp notes, the act provoked riots and led to the burning of government buildings. Many colonists viewed the Stamp Act as an unjust tax, and as a result, the act increased tensions between the British government and the American colonies. The Stamp Act was the first significant legislation passed by the British Parliament to regulate the colonies (Wagner, 2018). This act caused resentment among the colonists, who viewed it as an attempt to tax them without representation in Parliament. The Stamp Act led to legislative, economic resistance, protests, and riots in the colonies, which eventually led to the American Revolution. The Parliament later repealed the act to save face.
