Based on the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting incident in 2012, where twenty students and six adults died, the Second Amendment is not applicable in today’s society. People should be prohibited to bear weapons. If Adam Lanza would not have found three guns from their house, he would not have killed twenty-six people (CNN News, 2012). Although people have the right to defend themselves, allowing them to possess arms increases the probability of these weapons falling into the wrong hands.
The First Amendment allows individuals to exercise the freedom of speech, petitioning the government, the press, and assembly (The White House, n.d.). Specifically, it has been challenged numerous times in the Supreme Court, mainly due to government censorship, tapping emails, and phones. However, I believe that the government should not violate its citizens’ privacy in the name of national security. Individuals should not sacrifice their constitutional rights for security and freedom reasons.
