1. Why is the 17th century considered one of the most important centuries in mathematics?
The 17th century can be considered a golden age for mathematics due to some prominent figures’ outstanding achievements and discoveries. During this era, the concept of mathematics grew larger as geometry, probability, and calculus were explained and presented by their founding fathers. Just like the achievements of René Descartes, who was considered as “Father of Modern Philosophy” as well as “Father of Analytic Geometry.” He developed the Cartesian Coordinate Plane inlined with Geometry, and together with Pierre de Fermat, they established the foundation for Calculus, where he focused on derivatives.
