Date Policemen of the World In the last three decades, the world has witnessed and gotten accustomed to the fact that the United States has developed into and has assumed the policing role of the world. While still under the British rule, the above seemed like a far-fetched dream but currently, it is the reality. Europeans, the British, French, Italians, Portuguese, Germans, Belgians, and the Spaniards had established their dominance long before the United States attained self-independence. To the founding fathers of the US, the country was not in a position to contend with the above European powers. Therefore, after attaining independence from the British, the United States focused on issues that were within its borders (like building a strong army) and hence its adoption of the isolationism policy. With a strong military and most of its allies and interests at risk, the US decided to forego its first stand by standing up for the rights and freedoms of the oppressed and hence assumed the role of policeman of the world (For example the Korean and Vietnam wars). a. Describe the two (2) international events involving the US military from the past five (5) years you investigated that can be traced back to a foreign policy created after the Civil War. The signing of the Enduring Strategic Partnership Agreement between the United States and Afghanistan. This agreement made it possible for the US’s military to offer training services to the Afghanistan military after 2014. This deal can be traced back to the Truman doctrine of 1947. This policy was created to curtail the progress and development of communism. During the Cold War, the Soviet Union used all means within its grasp to expand its influence and doctrine. According to the White House press release after the signing, the US sought to “cement an enduring partnership with Afghanistan that strengthens Afghan sovereignty, stability, and prosperity, and that contributes to our shared goal of defeating the Al Qaeda and its extremist affiliates.” The purpose of this agreement is the same as the purpose of Truman’s doctrine i.e. to halt the spread and influence of an enemy. The airstrikes on the ISIL and ISIS strongholds since 2014 to present. These strikes can be traced back and connected to the policy of Containment of 1946. According to Litwak (2000), this policy was mainly used in the rogue areas and countries to suppress evil. Currently, the ISIL and ISIS are the most dreaded terrorist organizations of the world, and the common belief is that if allowed to operate freely it could grow and spread its influence beyond its current territories. The reason for the US strikes directly coincides with the Policy of Containment which sought to contain the spread and influence of the Soviet Union and the idea of communism. b. List three (3) aspects of US history since 1865 that have led to the US’s rise as a world superpower policeman. The US’s rise as a world superpower policeman can be attributed to its economic growth, the Second World War, and the Cold War. The truth is, the US’s rise to a world superpower policeman would not have been possible without its economic growt...
