Classicism is a common term in the visual arts that refers to the imitation of classical antiquity arts, especially the imitation of Roman and Greek Arts, including earlier prototypes such as the Aegean Art and the Etruscan Art. As such, any architecture, sculpture, or painting crafted in the middle Ages or later that draws inspiration from ancient Greece or Rome is a type of classicism. Often, the classical style varies from genre to genre, however, it’s distinguished for its balance, harmony, and unique sense of proportion. In both paintings and sculpture, classical arts uses idealized shapes and figures to give its subjects an aesthetic appeal (Classicism in Art).
