Whether coffee consumption is a health benefit Name Institutional Affiliation Introduction “A cup of coffee once you wake up can provide you with more than a boost in energy.” It is a phrase commonly uttered when people speak about coffee. Coffee is the most consumed drink worldwide, with 64% of Americans taking it every day (Wachamo, 2017, pp. 301). It comprises of chemicals that produce chlorogenic acid and caffeine, as well as carbohydrates, lipids, nitrogenous compounds, vitamins, and minerals. Coffee is controversial as some people believe it is useful in treating various conditions while others associate it with several adverse health effects. As millions of people continue consuming coffee, it is clear that coffee consumption is related to health benefits such as dropping the possibility of developing diabetes type 2, lowering the incidences of Parkinson’s disease and increasing energy levels. Taking coffee and diabetes type 2 One of the benefits of taking coffee is that it reduces the chances of developing diabetes type 2. According to investigative studies, this type of diabetes is a severe condition that affects more than five hundred million people worldwide and about twenty-five million people in America. Research by the Harvard School of Public Health, consuming coffee reduces the chances of developing this condition by 17%. Coffee increases the production of insulin by producing caffeine, which controls how the body responds to the insulin hormone through limiting the absorption of high contents of sugar from the foods and drinks one consumes (Harvard School of Public Health, 2014, Apr 24). Consequently, the body produces more insulin, which meets the necessary sugar levels the body needs, eliminating the possibilities of diabetes type 2. Consumption of coffee reduces the levels of glucose in the body. It does so by increasing the production of insulin hormone that prevents the absorption of glucose in the body. As more coffee is taken in, more of this hormone floods in the body, lessening and eventually deactivating the glucose 6-phosphatase enzyme, which facilitates the absorption of glucose. Coffee also influences insulin sensitivity. Chronic inflammation of the body plays a central role in causing resistance to insulin and the development of type 2 diabetes (Bhaktha, Nayak, Mayya & Shantaram, 2015, pp. BC 2-3). Studies have also associated coffee consumption with anti-inflammation markers and high sensitivity. The high intake of coffee drops the numerous biomarkers that cause inflammation, bringing about anti-inflammatory effects, which increases insulin sensitivity (Bhaktha, Nayak, Mayya & Shantaram, 2015, pp. BC 2-3). Coffee and Parkinson’s illness The second benefit of coffee is lowering the occurrence of Parkinson’s condition. The disease is the second most condition that leads to the degeneration of the brain after Alzheimer’s. The ailment, which affects about 60,000 persons in America every year, comes about through the death of the dopamine-generating neurons in a person’s brain (University Health Network, 2018, Nov 5). Despite its incurable sta...
