My Goals, Walden Vision and AACN’s Perspectives
Walden University has a vision that anticipates a distinctively unique 21st-century learning community whereby judgment of knowledge is worth to the degree of its application to solving critical and social challenges that result in positive global advancement. On the same note, the mission of the University is to provide a diverse community of professionals that have the opportunity to transform into scholar-practitioners who effectively change the society (Walden University, n.d). On the other hand, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) delves into the innovation and excellence in nursing academics through the provision of the framework and elements to build a nursing career for professional practitioners with clinical support and experience in the field of nursing (American Association of College Nurses 2006). Separately, my career has been to develop into a doctor who has studied Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) specializing in pediatric critical care section of pediatric emergency medicine.
As a child, I gained much compassion from my mother who was a nurse in the pediatric section handling children. I have been practicing pediatric nursing for five years coupled with attending emergency room as a nurse for four years. Moreover, I have been traveling in several hospitals in different parts of the country as a traveling nurse. I decided to be a DNP to widen my area of expertise and to have numerous opportunities to work due to flexibility in a change of my schedules and lifestyle.
