Theory selected in week1--

The theory, also known as the historical perspective, was developed by Freud Sigmund. He specified the aspect of unconsciousness that persuades people to do certain things (Kabir, 2017). Notably, a free association of patients with their counselors is one concept that Freud emphasizes in his theory. He also illuminates the areas of dream analysis and transference. In these spheres, therapists and counselors should explore the dreams of their clients to discover any untold information that may be important. With the help of the transference part, Freud encourages counselors to step in the shoes of their clients by redirecting the patient’s feelings to himself or herself. Today, psychotherapists use this theory to analyze past relationships of their patients, thus, remaining useful and applicable in the medical world. I chose this theory because many counselors are not conversant with it. Yet, when they understand it, it will help them to extract any meaningful information relevant for offering appropriate assistance to the clients.
