Using Behavioral Economics Concepts to Design Intervention
According to behavioral economics, it would be crucial to leverage human decision-making inclinations while recognizing that adults do not constantly make rational decisions based on their best interests. Behavioral economics could be applied in health care settings to understand why clients make irrational decisions by engaging in unhealthy behaviors and reduced daily physical activity (Chang et al., 2017). In this vein, behavioral economics concepts could help design an intervention tailored to boost daily physical training among adults, thus achieving the desired health outcomes. This might include using normative anchors to increase physical activity among the target population. For example, advertisements on the successful experiences of individuals in a particular group (e.g., women, seniors, or single mothers) for engaging in daily physical activity constitute a more practical normative anchor when designing the wellness intervention.
