Systems analysis is the process of collecting, organizing, prioritizing, and evaluating data about information systems requirements and the environment in which the system will operate. Analysis should include functional, process and task areas.
The following article describes an initiative by University of North Carolina (UNC) Health System to develop and deploy a unified Electronic Medical Record across a continuum of clinical care: Issues in the Creation of a Health System “Paperless” Electronic Medical Record and UNC Presentation
For this assignment, evaluate the UNC case within the context of the analysis areas presented in the background material. Write a scholarly paper that clearly addresses each of the following requirements:
Summarize at a high level the business context and business knowledge relevant to UNC and their paperless electronic medical record initiative.
Identify and describe key functional components, entities and their relationships. Explain the orientation and flow between each within a functional model. Use organization charts to the first level and function flow diagrams, or function maps as needed to help illustrate your message.
Identify and describe key processes and how they are (or should be) performed.
Identify and describe key activities and tasks, including how they are accomplished.
Summarize how the systems analysis approach, specific to each analysis area, did or could have benefited UNC.
You should rely on the information presented in the case article for your analysis; however, you may also extend upon what is presented using your assumptions and recommendations so long as they are clearly explained.
Use information from the modular background materials and case assignment narrative as well as any quality resources you can find via the online libraries or Internet.

With the ever changing times, technology is becoming very important. And the medical field is not being left behind. Most health institutions are trying to move from the manual systems to start using electronic medical systems. According to Raymond et al. (2015), electronic health systems are seen as a way of improving the quality of healthcare.
UNC System Business Context and Functionalities
In attempting to come up with a unified electronic medical record, UNC was trying to address the beliefs of the end users that there should be “integrated representation” from disparate systems. The UNC also wanted to address issues in hospitals where every department had their own systems and ensure that there was a single data repository for all the clinical data. With the system the UNC hoped that they could come up with a standard interface that all departments could use. These were issues that the vendor and “home grown” solutions had failed to address.
The system proposed by the UNC is supposed to cover: “Clinical Note Electronic Edit/Signature”, “Clinical Correspondence”, “Templated Note Entry”, and “Referring Provider Search”. The system proposed by the UNC can work on desktop and laptop computers. Before accessing the system, users will be required to login in for security purposes. The passwords are to be renewed on a monthly basis and those people that logged in are logged out after a certain period of inactivity. Besides, the system comes with logon tracking to know who accessed it, when they accessed it and what they accessed. To further implement strong security, the system comes with data encryption to ensure that even in an event of a data breach, confidentiality is not lost.
The primary Elements of the System
When a user logs in, they are able to view the following menus: Online medical record, Inpatient Census View (s), SMS, Outpatient Clinic/Operating Room Schedule, and Activity List as the main menus.
How the Elements work together
When a patient visits a hospital, the clerical personnel will access the referral database and update the SMS record. If the patient provides the wrong referral information, they would be sent to the consultation center. If the information is correct, the clerical personnel would create their admission record.
