Reading through the course readings and assignments, I have been able to understand some of the key aspects of patient safety and quality care of the environment. The course readings and assignments have been important in helping me understand this and have helped me achieve analytical skills necessary for health system improvement. Throughout the course I have analyzed case studies of healthcare systems where I have been able to identify the possible loopholes for medical errors and achieved key skills on how well to implement knowledge gained into practice. Such analysis entailed an overall view of the health care system not with the aim of identifying errors only, but also with the aim of identifying those sections that are performing well and those that need to be improved as a way of improving efficiency. Most importantly, the ability to create a connection and seamlessly coordinate the various quality care providers within the system contributes to the overall quality of care. However, the longer and complex the system is the higher the chances of errors. This does not mean that the system should be made shorter for efficiency, but rather understanding and implementing quality checks along the system helps achieve efficiency and improve quality care. Also, through these case studies and analyses of systems I have been able to understand why we should be conscious about implementing standardized protocols and procedures in a health care system. Some of these protocols and standards have been made based on evidence and, therefore, considered authentic and appropriate.
