It is important to ensure that the privacy of information is well protected by making sure that there are measures kept in place to follow these guidelines. This paper presents some of the guidelines for keeping confidential information.
Thorough orientation on the importance of maintaining confidentiality to substitute teachers. The purpose of orientation is to ensure that the new teachers are taught on the need to preserve the confidentiality of the students' medical conditions (Fleury, 2000). By so doing, there will be no cases of leakage and sabotage. When parents are assured that their information is safe, they can open up about the conditions of the student. New teachers and PE teachers should be guided by the medical conditions of the students that they train. Any medical issues should be recorded and properly stored in locked cabinets. Also, they should use crossword protected files in computers to ensure there is limited access to the data (Hammersberg, 2008).
Use employment contracts with confidentiality clauses. This makes sure that every teacher signs a contract in which they legally agree to keep confidential information to themselves. In this contract, it is important to state what is private and what is not. Therefore, it is considered as a breach of contract when a teacher reveals sensitive information about a student and this could lead to termination of the employment contract (Keith-Spiegel, 2002).
Developing confidentiality policies and training. A privacy policy is where a school develops programs to train their teachers on how to handle sensitive information. There are two broad aspects of sensitization which include the social media policy and the mobile phone policy.
