SyphiliS refers to a sexually transmitted disease resulting from a bacteria known as Treponema palladium. The infection begins as a sore on an individual’s genitals, mouth or rectum. The sores are usually painless. The disease is spread from one person to another through contact with the sores, mucous membrane, or skin. Additionally, the infection can be transmitted through contact with abrasions and minor cuts (Sullivan, 2022). The infection develops in primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary stages when left untreated. During the primary stage, individuals may experience non-genital chancres such as oral mucosa, tonsils, and nipples characterized by tender and non-tender lymphadenopathy (Sullivan, 2022). Primary Syphilis develops in the second stage if left untreated. However, the chances may disappear without seeking treatment in some cases.
