Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is among the endocrine disorders that are common among women in both developing and developed countries. The condition is primarily associated with hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, hyperandrogenism, and different types of long-term complications. This has drawn interest from researchers who are seeking to develop further knowledge on the subject (Advani, Batra, Tajpuriya, Gupta, Saraswat, Nagar, & Pradhan, 2020). As such, Advani, Batra, Tajpuriya, Gupta, Saraswat, Nagar, and Pradhan (2020) conducted this study to assess the safety and efficacy of the supplementation that provides combination of antioxidants (N-acetylcysteine and lycopene), insulin sensitising agents (myo-inositol, D-chiro-inositol and chromium picolinate), and vitamins (vitamin D, biotin and folic acid) among women who have PCOS. In this case, the researchers chose the most appropriate supplementation for this study. This is because the choice is made depending on the causes of the conditions. Each of the individual components of the supplementation help in managing the outcomes associated with PCOS among women.
The supplementation was administered to the participants for 12 weeks, and the observations showed that there was a significant improvement in acne, menstrual cyclicity, as well as hirsutism among both lean and obese PCOS patients. The administration was done within an adequate amount of time that allowed the supplementation to function and show outcomes on the patients (Advani, Batra, Tajpuriya, Gupta, Saraswat, Nagar, & Pradhan, 2020). Further, the findings showed that there was a significant reduction in the BMI and body weight of the subjects who were obese.
