Change Model in Evidence-Based Practice

Essay Instructions:

Evidence-Based Practice Proposal - Section E: Change Model
In 500‐750 words (not including the title page and reference page), apply a change model to the implementation plan. Include the following:
Rogers' diffusion of innovation theory is a particularly good theoretical framework to apply to an EBP project. However, students may also choose to use change models, such as Duck's change curve model or the transtheoretical model of behavioral change. Other conceptual models presented such as a utilization model (Stetler's model) and EBP models (the Iowa model and ARCC model) can also be used as a framework for applying your evidence‐based intervention in clinical practice.
Apply one of the above models and carry your implementation through each of the stages, phases, or steps identified in the chosen model.
In addition, create a conceptual model of the project. Although you will not be submitting the conceptual model you design in Topic 5 with the narrative, the conceptual model should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.

EBP: Change Model
The reception for a change in any organization varies among different groups of people. In the organization, people will have mixed reactions towards the change that is being introduced in regard to the level and speed at which it is being introduced. Rodger’s diffusion of innovation theory addresses the various reactions to new changes and its stages. This change model will utilize Rodgers theory to examine each phase and its effects especially in the implementation of an evidence-based practice.
The primary focus of the innovation theory is on how ideas spread among the various groups of people who are involved with the change. The theory takes into consideration the facilitators and barriers of the change (Sanson-Fisher, 2004). Rodger’s theory holds that two categories of people exist in the society. The first category is made up of opinion leaders who come up with and ideas and provides a guideline on how they can be addressed. The second category is made up of followers and audiences whose task is to receive the ideas from opinion leaders and find mechanisms on how to develop them further.
Adaptation of the Innovation
Not all people in the society adapt to changes in a positive manner and uniformly, but there is a sequence a series of time within which the innovation is fully adapted. For effective implementation of Evidence-Based Practice, it is important to identify the categories of people who will be involved with the change (Pashaeypoor et al., 2016). This will help in understanding the pace which the new change will be adapted in order to develop a proper implementation strategy. The categories of people in change are as follows:
Innovators are the first category and they are welcome to any new idea. They are the opinion leaders and willing to risks. Everything is appealing to them.
Early adopters form the second category and act in the capacity of opinion leaders. They are aware of the need for the change, therefore are welcome to new ideas and do need information to make them adapt the change.
Early majority forms the third category; they do not accept changes before any average person. They must see evidence proving that the change really works before th...
