Eminase (Anistreplase)
Eminase is a common thrombolytic drug that is indicated for acute pulmonary emboli lysis, intracoronary emboli lysis, and myocardial infarction management. Ideally, Eminase is a plasminogen activator and is mainly used during emergencies to treat myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism (Appadu & Barber, 2018). Commonly known by its brand name, Anistreplase, it works by cleaving the bond in plasminogen resulting in plasmin formation. Plasmin proceeds to degrade the thrombus fibrin matrix, where its thrombolytic mechanism is exerted (Appadu & Barber, 2018). The action helps to eliminate blockages in the artery that cause myocardial infarction and eliminate blood clots.
While Eminase has proven to be highly effective in its thrombolytic action, it should be avoided in some events.
