Nursing, like any profession, has its procedures through which experts can come into the system. It is a whole process of education and training, which in the end, brings out the refined person. There are however, different levels of qualifications in the field, based on the relevant certifications as well as the levels of education. Nursing in health care is a profession that aims at helping patients to recover from a particular illness and also assisting individuals to maintain quality health. To qualify to become a competent nurse in health care facilities, one has to go through some education. One can be eligible in the nursing field with some qualifications like having a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in nursing. There are several differences between a DNP and a Ph.D. in nursing. The main difference between the two is that Ph.D. research focused, whereas DNP is focused on clinical practice.
It is the various certifications in the field that further help to differentiate or even accord the different nursing professionals their respective duties and responsibilities. It is also in the same way, that they are cleared to perform certain procedures or not. Quite basically, the level of education as well as the relevant experience acquired over time in a certain capacity, plays a crucial role in the same.
Other differences include; DNP educates nurses on leadership across various departments of healthcare while Ph.D. teaches nurses majorly in the field of research and some other role preparation. DNP provides nurse students with a high level of skills concerning a particular medical area while Ph.D. equips nurse students with research methods skills like the quantitative and qualitative research methods (Melnyk, 2013).
