Background of the Study
There is no doubt as to the importance of immunization to the extent that Anderson (2017, p. 1) frames it as “the single most beneficial public health measure of the 20th Century.” This robust assertion is apparent in the fact that in the early 1900s, infectious diseases were the leading causes of mortality. However, the advent of vaccines was a game-changer considering that they currently rank eighth. Further, the process has been instrumental in ensuring a substantial number of children make it to their first birthday. The development of a safe and effective vaccine is a convergence of efforts from non-governmental, academic, and non-governmental agencies as well as the manufacturers. The institutions work in tandem to guarantee improved compliance and decreased health costs. Nevertheless, their evident effectiveness fails to eliminate the resistance and hesitance from parents, which is primarily based on various misaligned suspicions and misconceptions. In this regard, nurses have a role to play in that they can establish a more trusting relationship with parents and consequently, improving vaccination rates. Nurses ought to arm themselves with data that reflects sound clinical evidence to extract more confidence form parents. In essence, nurses can be central in alleviating outbreaks of vaccine-preventable infections.
The second article extrapolates the role of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) in the course of providing immunizations to the relevant populations. The institution advocates for timely and complete immunization for all viable populations including infants, children, adolescents, and adults. In this way, it articulates nurse practitioners (NP) as the professionals who are in the best position to meet relative procedures that guarantee children’s and families’ health and safety. In this case, the research question would be: What are the formidable procedures that health care practitioners and more so, NPs should take into consideration in regards to vaccines and immunization?

However, the greater emphasis is placed on infants and children because they are in the best stages where the implementation of these healthy procedures are more viable.
