Understanding the concept of data analysis is of the most critical skills that health professionals should have. The importance of data analysis in health care is realized in the formation of a basis for quality improvement projects. It enables medical staff to identify areas that need improvement and formulate the necessary methods to tackle it with an evidence-based approach effectively. This article is a proposal for the implementation of a quality improvement initiative in health care. The plan contains a description and significance of the problem deriving from previous research the implementation process as well as the projected outcome after the intervention. Patient-provider engagement is essential in ensuring the quality of health care in improving the security of patients and formulating an effective transition from hospital to home care. This paper offers an analysis of patient engagement as a quality improvement initiative in an organization.
Overview of the organization issue
Bellows et al. (2015) defined patient engagement as the application of two-way guided interactions in health care stakeholders i.e., patients, clinicians, and leaders. The level of cooperation between the stakeholders in our organization has been minimal, reducing participation and follow-ups on patient information and inclusion in decision making. The division of roles and responsibilities has been adversely affected by the non-existent interaction guidelines in the hospital, which has affected issues like security, trust, duty, and the general quality of health care provided in the institution. The hospital lacks proper engagement guidelines, which have led to a lack of responsibility, which can be checked by setting appropriate principles and processes that ensure meaningful and productive interactions. The transition from hospital to home care has also been characterized by several casualties as the follow-up procedure to offer a distinct platform for the providers to extend the services to discharged patients. The lack of engagement in the institution affects both patients and providers as the patients do not have a clear grasp of their role in ensuring their security and improving the quality of health care. The providers lack platforms that contain the guidelines on how to best interact with patients and the means to improve the quality of health care.
The Significance of the Quality Improvement Initiative
Formulating a means to enhance the level of patient engagement in the hospital would be a way to push the institution’s objectives and principles to both the patients and health care providers. When the information is saturated between the stakeholders, the mutual needs and goals are achieved through shared interests. For the health providers, and active engagement program would offer guidelines on how to best engage with the patients professionally and productively. It would provide a platform for a personal understanding of the patients for extended services like home care after discharge.
