The unit and its equipment are outdated and it is also an eyesore. The rest of the hospital has been updated at least twice but not the ICU. The ICU is the only unit this outdated even after repeated complaints from nurses and other staff members. It is embarrassing to work there and patients are dissatisfied. It makes the nurses work harder to change a negative first impression. The rooms are too small, they have no toilets (only sinks) so urine and stool is carried out into the soiled utility room located in the hall for disposal, one of the nurses station desk is leaning over, and something is always breaking such as light switches and wall suction. Purpose of the project
This project entails remodeling the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital given that this ICU has not been remodeled or refurbished and modernized since the year 1982. The hospital's ICU and its equipment are outdated and the unit is also an eyesore. It is worth mentioning that the rest of the hospital has been modernized at least two times but not the Intensive Care Unit, which is currently the only outdated unit in the entire hospital, and nurses and other staff members have complained about this issue repeatedly. Moreover, patients are often dissatisfied and they usually get a negative first impression and it is really embarrassing to work in this unit. The ICU is in such a deplorable state considering that the rooms are very small, they have sinks but no toilets and therefore stool and urine are carried out into the soiled utility room located inside the hall for disposal. In addition, one of the nurse's station desks is actually leaning over, and something is always breaking such as the wall suction and light switches.
Target audience
The target audience comprises the hospital's management - The Board of Managers and Administration. The management is important since their approval will be necessary before this project can go ahead. Funding for this project will only be obtained if the hospital's management approves it. I will inform the target audience about the benefits of the project to the critically ill patients, to the medical and nursing staffs, and to the hospital in general as a way of convincing the hospital's management to approve it.
Benefits of the project
The project will ensure that the hospital's ICU facilities are really as good as they can be for the patients in the ICU, the patients' families, and staffs within the hospital. The project will result in a facelift that will provide new equipment for the Intensive Care Unit as well as an improved environment for both nursing staffs and patients in the unit. Work on the Intensive Care Unit will include new flooring, new ceilings, a new isolation cubicle, a new toilet and new sinks, a refurbished medicine preparation area and innovative ceiling pendants that will house each of the medical gases, syringe pumps, monitors, plus other crucial equipment at the bedside of the patient. The work of modernizing the ICU would also include expanding the rooms since they are very small, putting up new nurse station desks, as well as new wall suctions and light switches.
