Coagulation
Coagulation refers to the process by which blood changes its form from liquid to a gel-like substance with the aim of preventing further blood loss from a damaged vessel (Keihanian et al., 2018). Essentially, coagulation is a good thing as it prevents excessive blood loss from a damaged vessel (McCance & Huether, 2019). On the flip side, coagulation may be dangerous if it occurs in a normal blood vessel. The formation of a blood clot in a normal vessel is undesirable and rare. However, it may occur under certain conditions, such as when an individual has some type of cancer.
When coagulation occurs in the normal way, that is, to prevent blood loss, the direct impact on the cardiovascular system is positive since it helps maintain normal blood volume (Antoniak, 2018). It also has a positive consequence on the respiratory system since it would mean that air transport to and from all parts of the body is not significantly interfered with.
