Spiritual needs are very important to patients. Both spiritual and physical needs are intrinsic throughout the lives of patients. One of the greatest challenge nurses experience today is providing spiritual needs to the patients. Spiritual needs are needs that enhance the spiritual growth of the patient. These needs make patients feel hopeful and social. After recovery to thank God. Nurses should be able to educate patients using a language they can understand easily. Sometimes doctors will provide treatment plans and medication using terms that patients cannot understand easily (Meilaender, 2013). Therefore nurses are supposed to bridge this gap. They should meditate with the patients because they are the closest people who can communicate with patients.
Spiritual care enables patients to make use of their religion and spirituality. Spiritual care enables patients to sustain themselves in times of health crisis. In holistic care, spiritual care is very important because it considers the complexity of patients. Spiritual care also addresses the emotional, social, physical, and economical needs of patients. Religious interventions are very important when treating patients (Chand, Subramanya, & Rao, 2014). This is because religious interventions will allow patients to connect with God and express their beliefs and values. Sometimes nurses can involve religious leaders during treatment.
Apart from providing spiritual care to patients, nurses are supposed to allow patients to communicate with their family members. These are non-religious interventions.
