Quality and Safety
Nurses play a fundamental role in ensuring patients receive desirable care services for improving their healthcare outcomes. However, while interacting with patients in the healthcare environment, I realized that the delivery of services is not always seamless within healthcare facilities due to systematic, cultural, cost-related, and workforce-based challenges, leading to the issue of quality and safety. As a result, nurses encounter diverse barriers while caring for patients, leading to problems like missed care and medical errors. Hessels et al. (2019) acknowledge that any obstacles that disrupt the provision of health services diminish the patient’s quality of care and safety. Moreover, interactions with experienced nurses have enabled me to respect the value of collaboration and seamless communication with colleagues and other healthcare providers for coordinated patient care. Such an aspect leads to improved safety of the patient and outstanding quality of care.

My interaction with experienced nurses in hospital settings has confirmed that this concept dominates at all care delivery points in modern nursing care. According to Fineout-Overholt and Melnyk (2019), evidence-based practice is fundamental for providing patients with effective care for optimum health outcomes. It informs all the decisions taken by healthcare professionals, including the choice of procedures and processes for executing them because the proven evidence guides their effectiveness.
Recognizing the impact of evidence-based practice in nursing practice has been eye-opening. It has enabled me to become proactive while interacting with research materials and to remain updated with the current and most effective strategies. I have realized that this concept has mov...
