Risk Management is Significant in Any Healthcare Facility
Risk management is significant in any healthcare facility to ensure the safety of the employees and the patients. I interviewed a local community-based clinic, and risk management is effective for patients' safety and achieving their strategic goals. The clinic emphasizes that risk management be a collective responsibility among employees even though a quality assurance manager heads the risk management department to oversee activities meant to prevent adverse actions that may lead to injuries or compromise the safety of employees and patients. Thus, I interviewed and recorded the risk management department's quality assurance manager and employees to gather adequate information about risk management.
Strategy
The first question identified the risk strategies in the healthcare's risk management program. The facility has emphasized the use of electronic patients' record history and medicine scanning. In addition, the facility has a program identified as the Advanced learning Center where every nurse and employee on duty log in upon arrival and logs out when their shift is completed. Also, they fill in patients' names on the computer, and their medical history appears if they have ever visited the clinic. Then the nurse adds the details of the patient and their ailment. Thus, the system perfectly stores patients' information, and it is secure as only a registered nurse or employee can access the details with their logins, and timing is also indicated (American Nurses Association, 2009)
Moreover, after recording the patients' condition and treatment recommended, it is fed into the computer for the pharmacologist to see the prescription and administer the drugs to the patient accordingly. At the pharmacy, the prescriber carefully scans the medication, and the dosage, then saves it to the computer for storage. Also, the prescriber ensures that the dose is correct and for the proper treatment. Thus, the electronic health record system is efficient and safe with patient data and prescriptions. Also, it is easy to identify patients' health history for more accessible and thorough treatment.
Professional and Ethical Issues
In addition, the second question addressed how the healthcare risk management program tackles ethical, legal, and professional issues such as malpractice litigation and prevention of negligence and vicarious liability. The quality assurance manager stated that regular reminders and briefings to the employees to observe the professional code of conduct are done and visible stickers on the wall. Also, he insisted that regular training and retraining are conducted to different standard operating procedures for the employees to prevent negligence and medic...
