Assessing Health Risks in My Community Using Gordon's Functional Health Patterns Framework
Gordon's framework is an excellent way of building a picture of a patient's health. The framework can be utilized to all patients regardless of ages and area of health specialty as it uncovers both dysfunction and function patterns. The framework considers the health of a patient from 11 particular aspects. Thus, it provides a broad spectrum of information, enabling healthcare providers to cognizance evolving patterns (Sudarmaji et al., 2020). In general, Gordon's framework understands that health is dynamic and keeps changing. The eleven aspects are easy to understand and use. They provide a systematic and standardized approach during data collection, enabling care providers to determine numerous health aspects. Like other frameworks, Gordon's framework has some weaknesses in that patients can manipulate data. Therefore, the framework must be used alongside the objective data to ascertain accurate health assessment as discussed.
In my assessment, not all aspects will apply. Using the Perception-Health Management pattern, I realize that individuals in the community have not embraced primary care interventions. Most wait until they are weak before seeking medical care. Through the Nutritional-Metabolic pattern, it is clear that most individuals do not observe a balanced diet and may suffer from deficiency diseases and especially in children. Also, consumption patterns of fast foods such as burgers may result in lifestyle diseases (Issel, Wells, & Williams, 2021). On Activity-Exercise patterns, individuals are actively engaged in supports, recreation activities, and suchlike. The Sleep-Rest pattern of individuals in the community is good. People are sleeping or resting at least seven hours a day. Self-perception- Self-concept pattern indicates that people's self-esteem is gradually falling, especially those with nutrition deficiency. Also, Sexuality-Reproductive patterns indicate that few cases of people with sexual functioning difficulties. The Role-Relationship patterns show that family relationships are strong as people seem to relate well, limited cases of stress, drug abuse, and crime, to cite a few. Besides, Value- Belief patterns show that majority of individuals belong to a specific religion. Again, Coping-Stress Tolerance patterns show individuals cope well with stress through the community's numerous support systems. I found no clear information on Elimination patterns and Cognitive-Perceptual patterns.
Having the right resources is crucial in ensuring my assessment is successful. The primary resources I will depend on for information are the people in the community. Also, I need therapists from support systems in the community to get Coping-Stress Tolerance patterns (Team, 2018). Be...
