Ms. A. is an apparently healthy 26-year-old white woman. Since the beginning of the current golf season, Ms. A has noted increased shortness of breath and low levels of energy and enthusiasm. These symptoms seem worse during her menses. Today, while playing in a golf tournament at a high, mountainous course, she became light-headed and was taken by her golfing partner to the emergency clinic. The attending physician’s notes indicated a temperature of 98 degrees F, an elevated heart rate and respiratory rate, and low blood pressure. Ms. A states, “Menorrhagia and dysmenorrheal have been a problem for 10-12 years, and I take 1,000 mg of aspirin every 3 to 4 hours for 6 days during menstruation.” During the summer months, while playing golf, she also takes aspirin to avoid “stiffness in my joints.”

CASE STUDY 1
Diagnosis is an activity that needs a lot of expertise and knowledge regarding the signs and symptoms of a given disease. Research concerning the subject matter is very much necessary. During the study, primary, as well as secondary sources which may include medical and nursing references, are required whereby; they assist in arriving at the right conclusion. The conclusion will be reached after precisely analyzing the possible conditions that might be present as per the symptoms of Ms. A. The analysis will be based on her age, health status, her routine activities, the recurrent time of her disease and conditions facilitating the recurrent of the disease. The period in which she has lived with the status and the results from the physician together with the drugs she takes to mitigate the condition among other facts are also necessary. Through these circumstances and preliminary workup, the correct diagnosis will be reached at. Knowledge, expertise, and research are crucial elements that enable the researcher to come up with the correct diagnoses of a condition or a disease. (Evans, 1968)
The most probable type of anemia that Ms. is likely to be suffering from is the iron deficiency anemia. This form of anemia is associated with lack of iron; vitamins B12 as well as foliate. As a result, the levels of red blood cells (RBCs) in the body tend to be low. Consequently, the protein responsible for carrying oxygen in the body, commonly referred to as hemoglobin, is produced in small quantities hence less oxygen is availed to the muscles. The patient thus experiences breathlessness and fatigue among other symptoms especially during vigorous activities and while at high altitude areas. The results were reached out after proper analysis whereby her relatively good health and considering her youthful nature were part of the consideration, which enabled the researcher to rule out the remaining types of anemia. This deficiency is probably caused by heavy bleeding during her menstrual cycle which consequently makes the body get rid of the vital iron mineral, vitamin B12, and folate, which are all essential elements in the body. This arrived at bearing in mind that the patient worsens at the time of menstruation. The degree of blood loss is therefore proven to be high considering the fact that the patient in question for the last couple of years has suffered dysmenorrhea and menorrhagia, conditions associated with mass blood loss. The blood loss is the reason behind her body weakness especially immediately after her menstrual cycle. The breathlessness is brought about by fewer red blood cells in her system. This disorder heightens during vigorous activities like playing especially in a high altitude region like mountainous areas. (Albanese, 1993)
After a lot of research on the disease that might be affecting Ms. A, the researcher realized that the patient might be suffering from the iron deficiency anemia due to lack of iron, vitamin B12 and folate, a condition caused by excessive bleeding. The researcher applied the knowledge and expertise gained during research work, together with the analysis of the secondary materials like ma...
