Problem statement
Human factors are key considerations when making the ultimate decision on purchasing equipment in a work setting to ensure safety. For instance, the tools used in health care facilities should match the safety levels desired for patients (The Joint Commission, 2015). The existence of human factors examines the relationship between human beings and the systems they interact with in their daily operations. In this case, designers and decision-makers have the task of focusing on the efficiency, creativity, productivity and satisfaction of all equipment with the human factors requirements to minimize errors in the working environment (Ginsburg, 2005). Failing to observe human factors is a key cause of diverse errors and inefficiency in healthcare. Hence, understanding human factors and their relationship to patient safety in the use of equipment is basic before purchasing the tools to ensure the implementation of the right decisions.

“It is recommended that a human factors evaluation should be performed to influence all hospital procurement decisions when purchasing medical devices, to ensure the best devices are selected for the end-users and to ultimately enhance patient safety.” Since the condition of human beings cannot be changed, the working environment and tools should be selected wisely to ensure that they fit in the working conditions of humans (The Joint Commission, 2015).
