Healthcare is increasingly becoming complex, and patient needs are equally diverse. In light of these challenges associated with patient needs and healthcare in general, healthcare professionals need to work collaboratively to improve patient outcomes. The inter-professional debriefing tool encompassing debriefing inter-professionally, recognition, and reflection allows caregivers to transform to work as a team. Debriefing is applied across diverse areas and for different purposes in work-integrated learning. Simulation exercises in medical and nursing training appear to be centric to understanding what debriefing is and what should and could be in work-related learning and the kinds of strategies deployable. The intense focus on performance and feedback in health-related simulation emphasizes the listed concepts associated with debriefing (Winchester-Seeto & Rowe, 2019). I will reflect on inter-professional debriefing as an approach to improving patient outcomes via collaborative care.
Difference between self-and group-debrief
I believe that self-debrief requires self-assessment and reflection on individual strengths and areas for growth. These areas of focus in self-debrief are essential in nurturing reflexive health care practitioners. In the self-debriefing, done via simulation, I can assess how I responded to a particular simulation. Some of the core focus points of assessment include my introduction to simulated scenarios, learning objectives derived from such simulation, and moments of weakness and strengths when handling the simulated situation. On the other hand, group-debrief refers to information sharing and event processing. The group can assess how they have reacted to a given situation or simulation through assessment, reflection, and introspection.
How did you or not learn about inter-professional team collaboration change after the group-debrief?
I learned that debriefing is a critical practice in enhancing inter-professional team collaboration after group debriefs.
