Governance boards play a pivotal role in ensuring effective management of Health Care Organizations. It ensures smooth operation and service delivery, thus improving overall quality of the health care facilities. Customarily, governance boards are expected to protect and fulfill community needs. Governance boards operate on a non-profit basis, and they are the custodians of the community's interests (Brown, 2019). Members of governance boards are considered trustees, and they work pro-bono except in cases where there are out-of-pocket expenses. Therefore, governance boards are trustees with the specific purpose to achieve within the Health Care Organizations.
Purpose of Governance Boards in Health Care Organizations
There are various stakeholders in Health Care Organizations, and governance boards are constituted to mediate conflicting interests from different groups. According to White (2019), the purpose of governance boards is to maintain and create a foundation for relationships among stakeholders. The board should implement and identify the healthcare goals of various stakeholders as effectively as possible (White & Griffith, 2019).
