The heart's right and left sides work together to ensure blood flows continuously through the lungs and to the other parts of the body. Blood enters the heart through the heart's right side in two large veins called the inferior and superior vena cover. The two veins empty deoxygenated blood from other parts of the body to the right atrium. Blood then flows from the right atrium into the right ventricle through the open tricuspid valve when the atrium contracts.
