My field of specialization at the American Sentinel is Leadership and Organizational Management. With the increasing number of challenges in healthcare currently, experts, healthcare facilities and organizations are demanding that all physicians in the industry have a high degree of leadership skills. This is because regardless of their cultural heritage, background, ethics and specialization, nurses play a significant role in healthcare and in their individual teams and are said to be majorly responsible for the outcomes of patient care in a hospital. In light of this, leadership and management skills are a pertinent requirement in ensuring high quality patient care in the facility. Nowadays, the models of leadership are created and organized by a vast range of fields which are categorized into competencies that outline and describe the specific scope of knowledge, skills and attitudes that students require for their success.
Choosing Nursing Management and Organizational Leadership at the American Sentinel, I will be equipped and qualified to lead change in healthcare organizations and shape the future of nursing. Nevertheless, to do this, I will be required to pass a third party certification exam which will earn me the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) certification from the Commission on Nurse Certification. However, to achieve all the prerequisites, the rigorous curriculum of the American Sentinel obliges that I acquire knowledge and skills starting from long-range planning, budgeting and developing a capital budget, reporting, creation and vision (Moser, Ramiah & Ibrahim, 2017). The key courses in this field include human resource management, healthcare strategic management and planning and leadership in healthcare organizations.
So far in the course, I feel and I am certain that I am competent in communication and relationship management, leadership, professionalism, knowledge of the healthcare environment and progressive discipline. Being an ANM, providing primary healthcare services at the community level, I have mastered the art of communication and relationship management (DeNisco & Barker, 2016). I am fully able to communicate in a clear and concise manner with my fellow workers and patients as well as developing solid relationships that have helped me interact with other people and groups in a more personal domain. Secondly, under the notion of leadership, I am certain that I can easily inspire individual and company excellence through my creation and distribution of a common vision using my leadership skills. I can also shape personal and organizational activities with the ethical and professional forms of conduct that entail professionalism with fellow employees and patients, offering essential healthcare services and being dedicated to the job at hand for a lifetime experience (Moser, Ramiah & Ibrahim, 2017). Lastly, I am competent that I have full knowledge of the healthcare environment in the way that I demonstrate and facilitate complete understanding of all the systems of healthcare service provision and leadership and management, in general.
